You'd have to live under a rock in the middle of nowhere to have never seen or heard of "To Catch A Predator". Dateline NBC's extensive series on child predators is sickening, riveting, and shocking. Chris Hanson, in conjunction with NBC, and the organization Perverted Justice, has uncovered over 200 twisted individuals who arrange to meet up with underage boys and girls through online chat rooms and other internet venues.
When the first installment aired, the American public was saddened and surprised to see so many men from all walks of life with the same sick intention. Due to the success of this initial mission, Dateline NBC decided to expand the series and the results continued to disappoint all those who watched. How were there this many people online looking to take advantage of youngsters sexually? Unfortunately, there are many, many more that Dateline NBC has not come into contact with. Thankfully, they have busted a slew of them. But this is an epidemic with which we must deal in today's world.
The internet has opened a door for all those looking for something or someone to satisfy their desires, illegal or otherwise. It is our job to police our own homes and computers for abnormal and/or dangerous activity. I urge you all to watch out for your own children. Don't be one of those oblivious parents who "don't know how to turn on the computer" or "have no idea what a MySpace page is". Your child will fight you on this at first but it's worth the arguing if it means you are saving your 13 year old from setting a date with a random 42 year old man passing themselves off as a high schooler. Also, make sure to watch out for your significant others and their online usage. If you watch "To Catch A Predator" long enough, you are bound to see some middle-class nondescript older man say he has a wife and kids of his own. For this reason, you also need to pay attention to your significant other's online usage. I am not saying you should stand over their shoulder and watch every little thing they do. But don't be clueless. Pay attention somewhat to their usage and habits.
Wynonna Judd is now experiencing the embarrassment and hurt involved with finding out that your husband has been involved in sordid behavior with an underage individual. If just goes to show you that this can happen anywhere and to anyone. It is a damn shame and I just felt it was necessary to mention something about it here to my readers. I want to make sure you and all of your families stay safe while surfing.
You can read about Wynonna's unfortunate situation here.
