Danity Kane - "Bad Girl" - 881,386

Rihanna - "Don't Stop the Music" - 860,672

Madonna - "4 Minutes" - 800,082

MISS TLC SAYS: I'm not surprised that Britney's "comeback vid" is at # 1, or that Lil Wayne is at # 2. However, I'm pretty confused about some other appearances on this countdown. I understand Madonna is "old" according to MTV's standards and demographics, but her "4 Minutes" vid also starred Justin Timberlake (a former mainstay on the channel) and it was a pretty successful song. Therefore, I don't get how two Danity Kane vids AND a Flo Rida vid (that technically came out in 2007) could still score more views than her. I'm also pretty shocked that Rihanna's appearances on the countdown were low, and not as prevalent as her radio play and internet presence. you would think that both of those factors combined would lead to a strong showing on an internet video viewing roundup. Anyhoo, these were their stats, and I just thought I'd pass them along to you all to peruse and comment on. Feel free to drop me a line with your thoughts.

Random Compliment

MISS TLC SAYS: You know, a lot of people love to abuse Jess on the regular, and I must admit that I can usually see why (the girl HAS fallen off since the pinnacle of her career back during the "Newlyweds" days). However, I think she looks beautiful here (and much like the old Jessica). This is Santa Simpson (and her dog Daisy) at a Macy's event in Chicago honoring the launch of her perfume, Fancy.

"Gossip Girl" Fashion Alert!!!

Did you see that hot bag Jenny Waldorf was carrying at Bart Bass' funeral??? You know the one that got a full screenshot when she hugged Dan?

Well Miss TLC got the goods on it for y'all!

It's a Bodhi bag, and it's the "Safety Clutch". Bodhi makes some really gorgeous things, and I just happen to have a friend who works for the company and informed me that the bag's been in HIGH demand after features in magazines and now the GG exposure.

If interested, you can buy it here.

I Had A Feeling

As my loyal readers know, I love love love the "Confessions of a Shopaholic" book series, and was therefore very excited about the movie version coming out in February (probably because for as far back as I can remember, I HAVE been a shopaholic). Unfortunately, in today's trying times, I (and many others) have had to cut back though on our sometimes excessive fashion obsessions. Of course, I still find a way to rationalize my previous materialism. I think that I'm LUCKY I was like that for the past 10-12 years, because now while everyone's cutting back on shopping, I'm good. I have so many pairs of shoes, coats, necklaces, headbands, dresses, skirts, earrings, and designer umbrellas (yes, even umbrellas), that I don't need anything for YEARS. Ha.

Of course, I'm only joking... maybe. ;) Materialism and greed are NOT good (despite what Gordon Gekko will try and tell ya). And you should NEVER NEVER NEVER overstep your financial boundaries. Yes, I love to shop. But I'm also responsible with my finances and not in $100K worth of debt due to my habit. However, the main character in the Shopaholic series, Becky, WAS. The whole funny nature of the series pretty much revolved around her dodging creditors and sinking deeper into debt.

So how would something like that go over in today's world marred by a credit crisis, rising unemployment, and a major reduction in consumer spending? I'm guessing probably not that well. (Although, of course I would try to spin that it may actually help and tempt people to start buying again... lol.)

Anyway, Disney seems to be completely aware of this issue because.....

From Newsweek.com...

This new frugality is also taking the gleam off Tinseltown. "Would I go out and buy something showy? Not at a time like this," says one of Hollywood's richest moguls. "It would be like bragging. "At Disney, top film marketers reportedly are agonizing over the planned Valentine's Day release of "Confessions of a Shopaholic," about a young, brand-obsessed woman. They reportedly are considering reworking the ending of the film to address today's harsh economic realities.

MISS TLC SAYS: I understand their concern, and do believe that most Americans need a serious lesson in financial management and living outside of your means, but I still hope that they won't mess with this story/premise too much.

What Are You Wearing?

While shopping in J. Crew on Black Friday, I came across this disastrous outfit:

Hmm... patterned footless tights with cutoff shorts, a baggy sweatshirt and dirty sneakers... at the end of November...

...but best of all, the tights were ripped... big... in several places (you can't see them all in this pic).

DISCLAIMER: Please know that all of this is said in jest. Faces and heads have been removed from the pictures in order to protect identities (kinda like the black line across the eyes thing you see in many fashion magazines...I'm just taking it a step further and being extra cautious...I am only critiquing the clothes, not the person). If by chance, you are the person in this pic and you want it removed, please contact me and I will do so immediately. :) We have avoided showing the face of the accused fashion violator so as to spare her the embarrassment. We here at The Wonderful World of Miss TLC love to point out fashion violations, and odd happenings in NYC, but we aren't trying to put someone's face on blast. If someone happens to come to the site, and can tell that they know the person just from their back, or their feet, or their clothes, so be it, but I don't show faces here.

*** To view past editions of "What Are You Wearing?" search for it by entering the title in quotes in the white search box at the top of this blog. Feel free to do the same with the name of any of our other recurring features. Believe me, it's worth it. Search is your friend. :) ***

A Miss TLC New Artist Alert: Zosia

I always love to see my people, and my people's people make it... IF they deserve it... and IF I liked them. ;) Anyhoo, my cousin's cousin has been grinding out on the West Coast with her music career for years, and she got a really big break this past Monday courtesy of "The Hills". Zosia's her name, and "Monday" is her song. It was played during a pivotal moment in the show, and I couldn't be happier for her. I used to hang with Zosia when she was a child, and even sang and danced with her and her cousins for fun back in the day. In fact, I still remember the day I received a copy of her first professionally pressed CD years back. I'm happy to see her efforts paying off. Her MySpace page is the cuteness too, so be sure to check that out as well.

In case you don't believe me, here are some screen shots from The Hills Soundtrack page:

You can view all the soundtrack info for each episode here (it's pretty useful because they will tell you who sang which track when, and then you can listen to them again and go buy 'em if available at that time).

"Gossip Girl" Spin-Off Info Revealed!

We've all heard the buzz about a potential "Gossip Girl" spin-off arising out of the success of the popular rich-kid NY-er show.

From Star Magazine...

OMG! When word broke that a Gossip Girl spin-off was in the works, fans of the popular CW show were abuzz with speculation over which current cast members would leave the hit series for its new sister show.
Now Star can exclusively reveal the answer!

A network insider says the spin-off will center around the younger lives of Blake Lively and Penn Badgely's on-screen parents, played by Kelly Rutherford and Matthew Settle.

"The show will focus on the early romance between Lily and Rufus," says the insider. "It begins when they first meet, during a time when Rufus and his band are at the height of their career. The show will follow the high society and rock 'n' roll lifestyle in New York."

And GG fans need not worry! The source denies rumors that an original cast member will be leaving the show to join the spin-off. Instead, "two new actors will be hired to play the young Lily and Rufus. Producers are planning to introduce the new couple during a flashback scene in an upcoming episode of Gossip Girl."

The insider adds the new show is slated to start filming in February.

MISS TLC SAYS: Hmm... at first I didn't think this would fly with the same viewers as the parent show, but when I thought about it longer, I realized that Rufus and Lily's "mini-mes" would probably be very interesting star-crossed cool rock star lover types which is pretty hot. We shall see if this all pans out.

Brooklyn Stand Up!!!

For those of us born and raised in Brooklyn (*ahem*), we've always known that this NYC borough is the hottest spot for culture, food, fashion, real estate, community, schools, and music. However, over the past 10-15 years, that recognition has spread to many, many others who were not lucky enough to be bred there. But NOW the interest and appreciation has officially risen to the most blazing-est level imaginable. Between the upcoming "Notorious" movie (depicting the life of the late Notorious B.I.G.), the lead single from the soundtrack "Brooklyn Go Hard" by Brooklyn's own musical mayor, Jay-Z, and fellow Brooklyn-ite Santogold, and the upcoming installment of MTV's classic grandfather of all reality shows, The Real World being based in BK, it's on and poppin.

I've posted the "Notorious" trailer before, but I now have an extended one for your viewing pleasure:

You can also watch the trailer for the new Real World: Brooklyn below:

As for "Brooklyn Go Hard"... it's been added to the iPod on the right so just click it. ;)

*******

Lastly - I want to alert you all to a great entertainment resource site featuring current Brooklyn events (ranging through various areas of interest - music, fashion, art, movies, etc.). It's called Never Leave Brooklyn, and it was launched by "in-the-know" Brooklyn resident Charles McVey a little over a year ago. You can check it out

* Can I get a slow clap? Britney returns people... whether you like it or not. It's been about 5 years since chica's seen a #1 album so I'm happy for her (even though I am one of the naysayers who don't believe she's ready and should fully tend to her mental needs before being thrust in the spotlight again). Anyhoo, the album's good classic Britney and I'm happy to hear that all the crazy comeback talk wasn't for naught.

* Interestingly enough, the next two spots are upheld by two of the other biggest female debuts of the year (which both came out last month) - Taylor Swift and Beyonce. Brit beat Beyonce in first week sales, but Taylor beat her (and is still kicking both of their asses in collective sales). Either way, it's girl power bitches!!!

* Kanye's still up there, even though this album isn't selling at the same rate of his last efforts. That could definitely have something to do with the current economic climate, but I'd rather say it has more to do with the fact that the album sucks. LOL. I'm joking. It's just boring. Hahaha. No really... there are a couple tracks I really like, but the rest is just really repetitive and not really saying much.

* I gotta be honest, I'm pretty shocked that Akon debuted all the way down at #7 with only 110K sold. Isn't he like huge or something?

* The rest of the top 20 is not surprisingly filled with holiday albums (Faith Hill, Enya, and Harry Connick, Jr.), American Idol contestants (the Davids), soundtracks/compilations (Now, Twilight, and High School Musical 3), and older returning performers (AC/DC, Elvis, and Guns 'N Roses).

A Miss TLC New Video Alert - Britney Spears' "Circus"

MISS TLC SAYS: I think she looks fantastic. This song is definitely not as catchy as "Womanizer" though and I think there were better second single choices on the album. Oh well. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME SASHA?!?!?!?!

I'm guessing Ms. Fierce must be just as much of a self-centered, sacriligious, talentless, tacky shrew as BeYAWNce because what I just witnessed on the Rockefeller Christmas Tree lighting ceremony was OUT OF CONTROL.

Now I always like to keep abreast of what's going on in the world, and specifically in my industry (music), because I love it. That means I pretty much try to listen, watch, and read everything (even if I'm not a "fan" of the artist). As for BeYAWNce, I loved Destiny's Child's second album ("Writing's On The Wall") and still play it to this day, and I've loved 5 or 6 songs combined from her 3 solo albums. Other than that, I think she's just a walking marketing plan with nothing much to say or do beyond the domineering puppeteering of her brilliant (business-wise) Dad, and her legendary (music-wise) husband.

For that reason, I've listened to the entire 2-album-waste-of-time-aurally-abusive-shockingly-bad "I Am... Sasha Fierce" and I must say I was pretty surprised. Instead of growing up, maturing (as a now-married woman), and securing her place as an "R&B Queen"; she panders to Rihanna-lovers, dumbs herself down lyrically, recycles old throw-away tracks from previous recording sessions (at least that's what they sound like), and sounds younger than ever (and not in a good way).

But to me, the most OFFENSIVE part of the album was "Ave Maria". Upon first skim through the tracklisting, I assumed she just sang the church classic. I rolled my eyes at that one, and forgot about it until it came time for that song to play... When I heard the opening melody, but D-I-F-F-E-R-E-N-T lyrics, my face scrunched up in dismay, disgust, embarrassment, and confusion. No matter which way you want to look at it, the chick either "sampled" Ave Maria, or attempted to re-write her own version... about "Maria's" (see: Ms. Knowles) own relationship with God... or Jay-Z. Holy Moses. Did noone screen this album before it hit store shelves?

The worst part about all of it though was that SHE CHOSE TO PERFORM THIS AT ROCKEFELLER CENTER AS PART OF THEIR CHRISTMAS SPECIAL!!! Therefore, the hosts assumed she was singing the untouchable religious gem (considering it was Christmas and all), and to make matters worse, she was wearing what must have been a House of Derriere (purposeful typo) tack-a-licious creation that bared WAY too much skin for a "serious, introspective song with a religious title".

Oh Beyonce. *SIGH*
